Rekha Gupta, BJP's Chief Minister-designate for Delhi, called her selection an honor for all women and credited hard work for her success. She also thanked PM Modi for the opportunity.

Rekha Gupta, who is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Chief Minister-designate for Delhi, credited her hard work for being selected to head the national capital and said it is an honour for every woman of the country.

She also said she is very happy and proud to have been chosen as the Chief Minister of Delhi.

“Hard work pays off, I am very happy and proud," Rekha Gupta told CNN-News18.

On being asked about being chosen as the Chief Minister of Delhi, she said, “This is not only my honour, but the honour of every woman of the country."

Also thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving her the opportunity to serve Delhi, Rekha Gupta said, “PM Modi has given me a chance."

“My motivation is hard work. The more you work hard, the more you succeed," she told CNN-News18.

“Every woman shall dedicate some time to the society, if you dream big, you’ll achieve it," the BJP’s Chief Minister-designate said.

Rekha Gupta is set to be Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister after she defeated Aam Aadmi Party candidate Bandana Kumari from Shalimar Bagh by over 29,000 votes.

A first-time MLA, Gupta was chosen as the Leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly at the BJP legislature party meeting late on February 19.

Rekha Gupta hails from the Baniya community and entered politics as an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) member in 1992.

She was born in Haryana’s Julana and has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for 32 years. She is a law graduate from Delhi University and also a former Delhi civic councillor.

Gupta has also been the president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) and has been actively engaged with women-related matters.
